On August 12, 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the An Khanh Thermal Power Plant in Bac Giang was held in Vu Xa village, Cam Ly commune. The project, with a total investment of nearly 30 trillion VND (approximately 1.3 billion USD), is expected to provide a substantial boost to the electricity supply in Northern Vietnam, addressing the increasing demand for power in the region.

The ceremony was attended by prominent officials including Nguyen Hong Thai, a member of the Central Party Committee and Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, and Trương Thanh Hoài, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade. The plant will be built on over 66.4 hectares of land and is designed to have a capacity of 650 MW, aiming to produce an average of 3.9 billion kWh of electricity annually once operational.

Trần Hồng Kỳ, General Director of An Khanh Bac Giang Thermal Power Company, emphasized the company's commitment to investing in and operating the project, which was established in 2016. The project is set to transition from the investment preparation phase to actual construction, marking a significant milestone in addressing energy needs.

During the ceremony, Phạm Văn Thịnh, Deputy Chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee, highlighted the critical importance of electricity as a foundational infrastructure for growth. He noted that with the rapid expansion of industrial and urban development in Bac Ninh, the demand for electricity is expected to rise sharply. Therefore, the timely addition of this power source is essential for the province's development.

The project is not only significant for energy supply but is also anticipated to stimulate economic activities in the area, creating jobs and supporting local businesses during the construction phase. The collaboration between the project stakeholders and local authorities will be crucial in ensuring the project progresses smoothly and is completed on schedule.
