Over 100 Joint Replacement Surgeries Performed Using AI Robot

Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has made significant strides in orthopedic surgery by performing over 100 joint replacement surgeries with the AI robot Cuvis-Joint in a remarkably short period of three months. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as hospitals in Europe, South Korea, and India usually require 6-12 months to reach similar figures due to the time needed for patient selection, staff training, and mastering the technology.

According to Cho Young Jean, the International Commercial Director of Curexo, the company behind the robot, Tam Anh Hospital is among the global leaders in utilizing this advanced robotic technology. The hospital's success rate for these complex surgeries stands at an impressive 100%.

Dr. Le Van Tuan, Director of the Trauma and Orthopedic Center at Tam Anh Hospital, emphasized the increasing demand for treatment, particularly for difficult cases. The hospital has ramped up its use of the new generation robotic surgeries to enhance productivity and efficiency, providing high-quality care that is less painful and promotes faster recovery for patients.

The majority of joint replacements performed using the AI robot are complex cases that are challenging or unsafe to execute with traditional techniques or older robotic systems. Many patients suffering from severe joint deformities, bone necrosis, and other complications have successfully regained mobility and alleviated chronic pain through these advanced procedures.

With the assistance of the Cuvis-Joint robot, surgeons can create a 3D surgical plan before the operation, allowing for precise positioning and observation of critical parameters. This includes anatomical landmarks, bone cutting angles, and optimal placement of artificial joints, enabling personalized surgical plans tailored to each patient.

On average, a joint replacement surgery using the AI robot takes between 60 to 90 minutes, resulting in less blood loss and effective pain management, allowing patients to begin rehabilitation sooner. The total cost for a robotic joint replacement at Tam Anh Hospital starts from approximately 135 million VND, which is significantly lower than similar procedures in other countries.

One of the notable patients, Mr. Hao, 70, was the 100th individual to undergo knee replacement surgery using the Cuvis-Joint robot. Prior to the surgery, he suffered from severe knee osteoarthritis and was unable to walk normally. Post-surgery, he experienced significant pain relief and was able to walk comfortably just days after the operation.

Over the past five years, Tam Anh's doctors have participated in numerous international conferences on robotic-assisted joint replacement in Europe and the United States. In 2025, they plan to undergo training at five major hospitals in South Korea, where the Cuvis-Joint robot is most widely used, to further enhance their skills in robotic surgery.

Currently, the Cuvis-Joint robot is available in only a few dozen major hospitals worldwide, making Vietnam the ninth country to have access to this cutting-edge surgical technology. Recently, Tam Anh Hospital received three outstanding international certifications for its robotic joint replacement surgeries from Curexo, further solidifying its reputation in the field.
