U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed growing frustration and anger regarding the intense retaliatory actions taken by Iran, which have placed significant pressure on U.S. military capabilities. According to a report from The Washington Post, Trump confronted Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth about the alarming shortage of strategic ammunition during a meeting at Camp David last Friday.

Trump demanded an explanation for what he described as an "inaccurate picture" of the U.S. military's capabilities, particularly as Washington faces shortages of long-range guided missiles and air defense interceptors. This shortage is believed to be limiting U.S. military options in response to Iran's aggressive actions.

Among the depleting weaponry is the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, which is crucial for protecting U.S. troops stationed at bases that have become targets of Iranian retaliation. The Washington Post cited two sources familiar with the matter, indicating that Trump's dissatisfaction erupted during a cabinet meeting.

Sources reported that Trump was particularly upset, believing he had been misled about the severity of the ammunition shortage, a factor that could significantly restrict U.S. military options against Iran. Trump allegedly told Hegseth that he believed the ammunition issue had been "resolved." In contrast, Hegseth reportedly attributed the shortage and the failure to adequately report the seriousness of the issue to Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg.

However, the White House has categorically denied the details of this confrontation. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told The Washington Post that the report was "false," denying any dispute between Trump and Hegseth.

The diminishing THAAD stockpile is particularly concerning for the U.S. military, especially as Iranian attacks have targeted American forces and positions in the region. Reports suggest that this ammunition shortage is one of the reasons Trump has refrained from ordering additional large-scale airstrikes against Iran.
