US Responds to Iran's 'Total War' Declaration Amid Ongoing Airstrikes

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing airstrikes against Iran, following a declaration of 'total war' from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The latest military actions come as the US aims to degrade Iran's military capabilities, particularly those used to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

On July 20, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the commencement of a new round of airstrikes, marking the tenth consecutive day of military operations against Iran. CENTCOM stated that these strikes are intended to further weaken Iran's military assets. Following this announcement, reports emerged from Iranian media about multiple explosions in the Hormozgan province, near the Strait of Hormuz, although details on the cause or any potential casualties remain unclear.

In a separate development, the governor of Bushehr province, Mohammad Mozaffari, confirmed that air defense systems were activated to intercept enemy aircraft, although no incidents of engagement were reported. Meanwhile, Iranian military spokespersons emphasized that the conflict would persist until Iran achieves comprehensive deterrence against the US.

President Donald Trump has framed the ongoing military campaign as a necessary response to what the US perceives as Iranian provocations, particularly regarding attacks on commercial shipping in the region. Despite concerns over rising oil prices and the upcoming midterm elections, the Trump administration maintains that the military actions are justified. Trump has previously promised to avoid 'endless wars,' yet his administration argues that the current military campaign is essential for national security.

Iran's military leadership has warned neighboring Arab states against participating in actions against Iran, labeling such interventions as unjust and unacceptable. The Iranian military insists that their operations will continue until a state of complete deterrence is achieved, emphasizing that this approach is based on experience and caution rather than aggression.
