Iran's Military Bases Targeted Amid Rising Tensions

Iran has confirmed that two military bases located in Bushehr and Konarak were targeted during the night, although the identity of the attackers remains uncertain. Ehsan Jahanian, the deputy governor of Bushehr responsible for political and security matters, stated that a command center on the outskirts of Bushehr was struck by a projectile believed to be from the U.S. or Israel on the evening of July 9.

State television in Iran, IRIB, reported that a naval base in the southern city of Konarak was attacked twice by enemy fighter jets on the same night. Mohammad Younes, the district leader of Konarak, mentioned that rescue teams and security forces were promptly dispatched to the scene. Smoke was observed rising from the site in Bushehr following the attack early on July 9.

According to CNN, a U.S. official stated that American forces were not involved in the attacks, while some Israeli officials asserted they were unaware of any military involvement in the recent strikes in Iran. The Pentagon and the Israel Defense Forces have yet to comment on the situation.

This incident comes on the heels of a series of U.S. strikes on multiple targets in Iran over two days. In retaliation, Iranian forces launched attacks on several U.S. military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, including the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Manama. On July 9, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the launch of ten ballistic missiles targeting U.S. military infrastructure in Jordan, including a command center at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. The Jordanian military reported that it detected eight missiles and successfully intercepted all targets.

A U.S. official emphasized that technical negotiations with Iran regarding nuclear issues are still ongoing despite the clashes. "The U.S. remains committed to finding a solution. Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons," the official stated.

The geographical positions of Bushehr and Konarak are critical, and tensions in the region have escalated. The U.S. has expressed concerns over Iran's actions, including its limited access to the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on vessels during NATO's summit in Turkey, indicating a significant breach of agreements.

On July 8, former President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran had ended, suggesting that negotiations were merely a waste of time. Iran responded by asserting that key elements of the memorandum signed with the U.S. in June were rendered ineffective due to Trump's statements, warning Washington of the dangerous consequences of such actions.
