Noi Bai Airport in Vietnam has come under fire following the introduction of a new traffic management system that has significantly impacted passengers using ride-hailing services. Since the new plan was implemented on August 3, many travelers have expressed their dissatisfaction by leaving one-star reviews on Google.

The recent changes require traditional taxis to continue picking up passengers close to the terminals, while ride-hailing vehicles such as Grab and Xanh SM are now directed to designated parking areas. Specifically, passengers arriving at Terminal 1 must walk to parking lot P2, while those at Terminal 2 go to parking lot P1. If these lots are full, they are redirected to parking lot P7.

A representative from Noi Bai Airport explained that the adjustments were made to alleviate congestion around the terminal area and to ensure safety and security. Given the limited space for parking and access roads, it was deemed necessary to separate different types of transport, even though this means passengers may have to walk longer distances.

However, this new arrangement has sparked a wave of criticism. Many passengers have taken to Google Reviews and social media to voice their concerns about having to drag their luggage for hundreds of meters after a long flight just to reach the designated pickup points. One traveler, Phong May, commented, "After a long flight, having to push my suitcase a long distance is exhausting. It's particularly difficult in the heat, and if it rains, there’s no shelter in many areas."

Another passenger suggested that while it is important to learn from international airport traffic management models, the solutions must be tailored to local infrastructure conditions. They pointed out that many airports abroad have pickup areas directly connected to terminals, featuring indoor walkways and real-time vehicle location displays, which prevent long waits and confusion for passengers.

Some reviews also highlighted that the new system has led to longer wait times for ride-hailing drivers, as passengers take more time to reach the pickup points. There have even been instances where travelers canceled their rides or opted for traditional taxis to avoid the inconvenience.

Despite the criticism, some believe that walking an additional few hundred meters is a minor inconvenience if it leads to a more organized and less congested terminal area. Passengers suggested that for the new system to be effective, the airport should install clearer signage, provide covered walkways, and consider solutions to assist elderly travelers, pregnant women, and families with young children.

The representative from Noi Bai Airport stated that they will continue to monitor the situation and adjust the traffic management plan as necessary, aiming to maintain order and safety while enhancing the passenger experience.
