The National Assembly of Vietnam is preparing to review and potentially approve resolutions for the establishment of Quang Ninh City and Bac Ninh City during its extraordinary session scheduled for August 6. On August 4, the National Assembly's Standing Committee unanimously agreed to present these resolutions for consideration.

According to Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Tien Hai, the establishment of Quang Ninh City and Bac Ninh City, along with 12 new wards in Bac Ninh province, is deemed necessary for the continued development of these regions. This initiative aligns with the strategic directions outlined in various resolutions and plans approved by the Central Government and the Politburo.

Quang Ninh City is expected to be formed based on its current natural area, population size, and administrative units. Once established, it will cover over 6,231 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 1.52 million and consist of 54 administrative units, including 30 wards and 22 communes.

Similarly, Bac Ninh City is projected to be established with a natural area of over 4,713 square kilometers and a population of around 3.99 million, comprising 99 administrative units, which include 54 communes and 45 wards. The new wards in Bac Ninh will be formed from existing communes, ensuring continuity in governance.

The government has proposed to utilize the current offices and public assets of both provinces for the new cities. The organizational structure of local government agencies will largely remain unchanged, with adjustments made as per legal regulations to ensure effective urban governance.

Phan Chi Hieu, Chair of the Law and Justice Committee, expressed support for the necessity of establishing both cities and the new wards. The resolutions are expected to take effect on September 1 for Quang Ninh City and September 20 for Bac Ninh City.

Local leaders, including Quang Ninh Provincial Secretary Quan Minh Cuong and Bac Ninh Provincial Secretary Nguyen Hong Thai, have pledged to fulfill their responsibilities effectively as their regions transition to city status, focusing on economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
