The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has predicted that Vietnam will likely see about 1 to 2 tropical storms or depressions in the East Sea during August 2026. This forecast comes after two storms occurred in July, indicating a somewhat active weather pattern in the region.

Regarding temperature trends, the average temperature across the country in August is expected to be 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius higher than the long-term average. In the northern provinces and areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue, the heat is anticipated to decrease compared to previous years. However, the coastal region of South Central Vietnam may continue to experience prolonged heat, with a higher number of hot days compared to the average.

Rainfall is also expected to vary, with the northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri anticipating 10 to 30% more precipitation than the historical average for this time of year. Other regions may see rainfall levels close to the average. Widespread heavy rain is expected primarily in the northern areas, while the Central Highlands and southern regions may experience scattered thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.

Dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, and strong winds are likely to occur nationwide, with a higher concentration in the northern provinces and the Central Highlands.

As for maritime weather trends, the likelihood of tropical storms affecting the East Sea and making landfall in Vietnam is lower than the historical average for August. The average number of storms in this month is typically around 2.4, with about 0.8 making landfall.

Given the increasing complexity of weather patterns due to climate change, the meteorological agency advises local authorities and residents to stay updated with short-term forecasts to adjust production plans and ensure safety for daily activities.
