Vietnam's Automotive Market Sees Growth in Early 2026

The Vietnamese automotive industry has shown remarkable growth in the first half of 2026, with total sales reaching 328,818 vehicles, marking a 29.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Most automotive manufacturers reported positive business results, contributing to the overall market growth.

Leading the charge is VinFast, which has established itself as a dominant player in the domestic market. The company recorded an impressive sales figure of 115,916 vehicles, setting a new record since its inception for the first half of a calendar year. This figure is more than three times that of its closest competitor, Toyota, and surpasses the combined sales of four other brands: Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford, and Hyundai, which totaled 103,328 vehicles.

VinFast, the only manufacturer exclusively selling electric vehicles, has seen its sales increase by nearly 73% compared to the first half of 2025, significantly outpacing the overall industry growth. The introduction of models such as Limo Green and VF MPV 7 has bolstered VinFast's position in the family and service vehicle segments.

Toyota remains the best-selling foreign brand in Vietnam, with models like Vios, Yaris Cross, and the newly introduced Hilux pickup contributing to its sales. Hyundai has also bounced back, particularly in the commercial vehicle segment, achieving a 21% growth.

Mitsubishi has seen a 37% increase in sales, thanks to the popularity of its Destinator model in the CUV segment. Meanwhile, Kia has improved its sales figures, driven by the appeal of models like Sonet and Seltos, aided by retail price reductions and promotions.

Despite some brands experiencing slower growth, such as Mazda and Ford, the overall market trend indicates a robust recovery and a competitive landscape as manufacturers adapt to consumer demands and preferences.
