A truck driver in Vietnam has been fined approximately 50 million VND for reckless driving after engaging in dangerous maneuvers that almost resulted in accidents. The incident took place on June 23, 2026, on the Hanoi-Bac Giang highway, specifically in the Bac Giang area of Bac Ninh province.
According to reports, the driver was operating a truck with license plate 98H-048.xx, towing a semi-trailer with license plate 98RM-036.xx. Eyewitnesses captured footage of the truck swerving and weaving in and out of traffic, aggressively cutting off other vehicles. This reckless behavior not only endangered the lives of other drivers but also sparked outrage among onlookers.
Following complaints from the public, the Traffic Police Department initiated an investigation into the matter. The driver, identified as D.V.D, born in 1986 and residing in Tan Dinh commune, Bac Ninh province, admitted to the violations during questioning on June 24, 2026. He acknowledged his reckless driving and accepted the legal consequences.
The Traffic Police issued a violation report based on the investigation's findings. Authorities have emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to ensure safety on the roads. Reckless driving, such as swerving and cutting off other vehicles, will be met with strict penalties as stipulated by law.
According to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, drivers caught engaging in such dangerous behaviors face fines ranging from 40 to 50 million VND, along with the potential suspension of their driving licenses for 10 to 12 months. In cases where reckless driving leads to accidents, fines can escalate to 50 to 70 million VND, with license suspensions extending to 22 to 24 months.
Authorities encourage citizens to report any traffic violations by capturing images or videos to assist in timely enforcement actions.
