Thái Nguyên Plans to Establish Eight New Urban Wards

Thái Nguyên province in Vietnam is planning to create eight new urban wards, which will be formed from existing communes. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance urban management and development in the region.

The proposal, submitted by the Provincial People's Committee to the Provincial People's Council, outlines that if approved, the total number of administrative units in Thái Nguyên will increase to 92, comprising 69 communes and 23 wards. The eight new wards are expected to include Chợ Đồn, Định Hóa, Đồng Hỷ, Phú Bình, Phú Lương, Quân Chu, Trại Cau, and Võ Nhai.

The establishment of these new wards is anticipated to facilitate a new phase of development for the province, characterized by expanded space and a larger population base. It is also aimed at fostering a tightly integrated development structure among dynamic urban areas, economic corridors, midland regions, mountainous areas, and unique ecological zones.

According to the provincial authorities, the eight communes identified meet the legal requirements for ward establishment. The proposal will be reviewed and potentially approved during the upcoming fourth session of the Provincial People's Council, scheduled for late June 2026.

This administrative adjustment is expected to streamline governance and improve the delivery of public services without altering the natural area or the population size of the province.
