Phu Quoc – The first island city of Vietnam

According to Internal Service, Phu Quoc is located in the southwestern sea area of the country, bordering countries: Cambodia, Thailand. Phu Quoc is covered by a long coastline with many famous and pristine beaches.


Besides, the waters of Phu Quoc have potential fishing grounds and deep-sea waters to facilitate the development of the fishing industry and the development of the seaport system.


In order to effectively exploit the potential of Phu Quoc, the Phu Quoc Island Construction Master Plan up to 2020 was approved in Decision No. 1197/QD-TTg dated November 9, 2005. After 15 years of construction and development, the economy of Phu Quoc district always achieves a high and rate. There are 320 projects in the district, with a total registered investment capital of over 340 trillion dong.

Duong Dong town and An Thoi town have been rated for 12/12 standards infrastructure development qualification standards to establish award of Phu Quoc city.

From the effective date of this Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (from March 1, 2021), Kien Giang province will have 15 district-level administrative units, including 3 cities: Ha Tien city, Rach Gia city, and Phu Quoc city, 12 districts with 144 commune-level administrative units (116 communes, 18 wards, 10 towns). Phu Quoc officially became the first island city of Vietnam.
