The ‘armored’ house is made of ceramic

Not only creating both traditional and convenient accommodation for homeowners, but the project in Bat Trang also won the award of a British architecture magazine.

Located in the old village of more than 1,000 years old, the five-storey house on an area of 220 m2 combines the typical traditional beauty of Bat Trang outside with the modern and comfortable interior of the interior.

The mission set out for the architects is to design daily living spaces for a large family of seven, where relatives and friends regularly gather, cook and the living space must “harmony with nature. “. Besides the main function of living, the house is also used as the homeowner’s ceramic business.

Inspired by traditional local products, the design team uses ceramic as the main material. The entire exterior wall system of the house is built of 5,000 ceramic bricks with different densities, hollow, forming a giant ceramic block in the heart of Bat Trang.

Ceramic materials also have many advantages such as quite high hardness, good resistance to impacts from the environment such as sunshine, rain, dust, and good resistance to humidity and mouth.

The front of the house is also arranged with 31 doors, combined with green trees to create highlights.

As the homeowner wishes, the element that connects people with nature, the interaction between everyone in the house is particularly interested by the design team. After the ceramic shell is a cushion, followed by a living space.

The buffer is from 0.5 to 5 meters wide depending on location, used as a place to plant trees such as star fruit, jackfruit and shade-loving trees. Thanks to that, nature is always present in the daily life of the homeowner.

In order for the tree to grow without affecting the structure of the house, the design team poured a separate tank system for the big trees and added layers of geotextile, versicell to aid the drainage.

Designing three layers to cool the house, homeowners do not need to use many air conditioners. Ceramic brick wall blocks direct sunlight but still allows wind and light to pass through, making the building always clear.

The interior space inside is designed to be airy with large glass panels, creating frames for residents to “capture” the surrounding nature and feel the light effects created by the outer ceramic brick wall. out.

The combination of glass door frames and openings in the brick wall also works to get light effectively without causing too much heat in the summer.

Furniture using mainly natural wood combined with fired brick walls painted in similar colors to ceramic shells brings a warm feeling.

Earlier this year, this project won the Best New House category of Wallpaper * Design Awards 2021 organized by Wallpaper * magazine.
