Man Harasses Police with Over 300 Phone Calls

A man identified as N.T.T., born in 1991, has been penalized for making over 300 harassing phone calls to the emergency police hotline, known as 113, in Vietnam. The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of emergency services and the impact on police operations.

According to the Department of Administrative Management on Social Order of the Dong Thap Provincial Police, the man made these calls between June and September 30, 2023, without reporting any emergencies. This behavior hindered the police's ability to respond effectively to genuine emergencies.

From September 21 to September 28 alone, N.T.T. made 61 calls, averaging more than seven calls per day. This alarming frequency of calls prompted the police to investigate further. Upon reviewing the call logs, the Quick Response Police Team confirmed the excessive nature of these calls.

Authorities coordinated with local police to summon N.T.T. for questioning. During the interrogation, he admitted to his actions, acknowledging that his calls were not legitimate reports but rather a form of harassment.

As a result of his actions, N.T.T. was fined 3.5 million VND (approximately $150) under Decree 282/2025/ND-CP, which outlines penalties for administrative violations in the fields of public order and safety, as well as measures against social evils and domestic violence.

This case highlights the importance of using emergency services responsibly and the consequences of abusing such systems, which are designed to protect public safety.
