Starting from October 5, 2026, individuals in Vietnam aged 60 to under 75 who meet specific criteria will be eligible for a monthly social assistance payment of 810,000 VND. This initiative is part of Decree 335/2026/NĐ-CP, which aims to provide financial support to older adults who do not receive pensions.
The new assistance program is designed to ensure a basic income for seniors who are particularly vulnerable, including those from low-income households and individuals with disabilities. To qualify for the assistance, applicants must not have anyone legally responsible for their care.
To further clarify the eligibility requirements, the decree states that only those who fall within certain categories will receive the monthly payment. For instance, seniors who are part of low-income households and have no caregivers will be prioritized. Additionally, individuals aged 60 to under 75 who have severe disabilities are also eligible for this support.
The calculation for the monthly payment is based on a standard assistance level of 540,000 VND multiplied by a factor of 1.5, resulting in the total amount of 810,000 VND. This adjustment is intended to improve the living conditions of the elderly population.
Local authorities are responsible for reviewing and maintaining accurate records to ensure timely distribution of the funds to the eligible recipients once the program is implemented.
This social assistance initiative reflects the government's commitment to enhancing social welfare and providing necessary support for the aging population in Vietnam, particularly those facing economic hardships.
