Monthly Subsidy of 540,000 VND for Seniors in Poverty

Monthly Subsidy of 540,000 VND for Seniors in Poverty

As of October 5, 2026, individuals aged 70 and older who belong to poor or near-poor households in Vietnam will be eligible to receive a monthly subsidy of 540,000 VND. This new policy is part of the government's efforts to provide financial assistance to vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly.

According to the provisions of the Social Insurance Law, citizens aged 75 and above are entitled to social pension benefits, provided they do not receive a pension or any monthly social insurance benefits, unless otherwise specified by the government. However, individuals aged 70 to under 75 who meet specific criteria can also qualify for these benefits.

The new subsidy amount of 540,000 VND per month represents an increase from the previous rate of 500,000 VND. This adjustment is part of a broader initiative to enhance social welfare for the elderly, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The local government will also have the authority to provide additional support based on the economic conditions and budgetary capabilities of the region.

This measure is expected to significantly improve the living conditions of many elderly citizens who have been struggling financially. The government encourages eligible individuals to apply for these benefits to ensure they receive the necessary support.

For more information on how to apply for the social pension benefits, individuals can contact the legal advice hotline or visit the relevant government offices.
