Hanoi is taking significant steps to alleviate traffic congestion in the city by expanding the Ô Chợ Dừa road. This expansion involves trimming the median strip, which is expected to enhance the road's capacity and improve traffic flow.

The Ô Chợ Dừa road, often referred to as one of the most expensive roads in the world, has a total investment of over 800 billion VND. Notably, two-thirds of this budget is allocated for land clearance efforts. The road features a cross-section of over 80 meters with four lanes in each direction, stretching 547 meters in length. This means that the average investment per meter is approximately 1.46 billion VND.

Located at a crucial junction where six major streets converge, including Xã Đàn, Tôn Đức Thắng, and Khâm Thiên, the Ô Chợ Dừa area experiences high traffic density and frequent congestion during peak hours. The expansion project aims to address a bottleneck that has emerged at the end of the road, particularly from house number 34 to the Hoàng Cầu intersection.

To tackle this issue, the Hanoi Department of Construction has proposed a traffic organization plan that includes trimming the median strip between house numbers 34 and 80. This adjustment will widen the road by an additional 5.5 meters in each direction, allowing for three lanes of traffic to flow smoothly.

As of October 4, construction teams have begun the trimming process, which will be synchronized with the existing road structure and overall traffic organization plan. Previously, the median strip was designed with a substantial width and featured greenery and flowers to enhance the urban landscape.

Once the expansion is complete, the road will continue to support two-way traffic, with a fixed median strip separating the lanes. The new traffic organization plan is set to be implemented officially on October 9, aiming to gradually relieve congestion at the Hoàng Cầu – Vành đai 1 intersection.
