Hanoi's Department of Construction has issued a notice regarding traffic adjustments on La Thanh Road, specifically between the Nguyen Chi Thanh intersection and Thanh Cong Road, starting from June 17, 2026. This measure is part of the ongoing construction for the Belt Road 1 project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city's central areas.
According to the announcement signed by Tran Huu Bao, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Construction, all vehicles will be banned from traveling on the existing La Thanh Road section during this period. Instead, drivers will be directed to use the newly completed Belt Road 1, which features a new asphalt layer, as an alternative route.
Motorcycle riders on Nguyen Hong Road will also be prohibited from turning left onto Nguyen Chi Thanh. All road users are advised to follow the new traffic signs and designated turnaround points along the Belt Road 1.
To ensure traffic safety, the Department of Construction has mandated the installation of speed limit signs, restricting speeds to a maximum of 40 km/h along the new Belt Road 1 segment from Nguyen Chi Thanh to Thanh Cong. Additionally, stopping and parking will be prohibited throughout this section.
Notably, the traffic organization plan for the new Belt Road 1 will maintain the existing prohibition on vehicle traffic from Nguyen Chi Thanh to Thanh Cong, mirroring the current restrictions on La Thanh Road.
The Hanoi Department of Construction has tasked the Project Management Board for Civil Construction Works to collaborate with relevant agencies to manage traffic flow, install necessary signage, and ensure safety while minimizing congestion during the construction period.
This segment of the Belt Road 1 project, specifically the Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section, is considered a key infrastructure project for Hanoi, expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city center upon completion.
