Fuel Prices Drop Significantly on October 5

On October 5, 2026, fuel prices in Vietnam have dropped significantly, reflecting the global trends in oil pricing. As of 7:10 AM local time, Brent crude oil was priced at $102.36 per barrel, showing a slight increase of 0.11%. However, by 8:40 AM, WTI crude oil prices fell to $90.24 per barrel, down 0.87% from the previous close of $91.11 per barrel.

The fluctuations in oil prices are attributed to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The Houthi forces in Yemen have reportedly launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting Saudi Aramco facilities, raising concerns about potential disruptions to Saudi Arabia's oil production. In response, the Saudi-led coalition has conducted numerous airstrikes against opposing forces in the region.

In addition to geopolitical factors, the oil market is also closely monitoring the supply policies of OPEC+. During a recent meeting, OPEC+ decided to maintain its oil production targets for November, indicating that no significant adjustments to production policies are expected in the near future. The oil exports from some OPEC+ members in the Gulf region have been affected by the ongoing conflicts, with recent figures showing exports at only 60-80% of normal levels.

In Vietnam, the retail fuel prices have been adjusted by Petrolimex, with the new prices coming into effect from 3 PM on October 1. The current retail prices for gasoline and diesel are as follows:

  • Gasoline E10 RON 95-III: 600 VND/liter
  • Diesel 0.05S-II: 1,250 VND/liter

Looking ahead, forecasts suggest that fuel prices may increase in the next adjustment period, with expected increases of approximately 1,200 VND/liter for Gasoline E10 and 1,300 VND/liter for Gasoline E5 RON 92-II.

These price changes are subject to market fluctuations and should be monitored closely.
