Global Oil Prices Decline: Update on September 13

On September 13, 2026, at 5:00 PM, global oil prices saw a significant downturn. The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell to $99.99 per barrel, a decrease of $2.49 or 2.43% from the previous session. Earlier, WTI had opened at $103.97 per barrel and closed the previous session at $102.48 per barrel.

Similarly, Brent crude oil was priced at $104.47 per barrel, down by $3.16 or 2.49%. It had opened the session at $108.95 per barrel and closed the previous day at $107.63 per barrel.

The decline in oil prices is attributed to several factors, including efforts by some Middle Eastern countries to negotiate a temporary agreement with Iran to ensure the smooth transportation of goods through the Strait of Hormuz. The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the oil market is currently influenced by escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, attacks by Houthi forces on Saudi Arabian oil facilities, and ongoing peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

These geopolitical factors have led to fluctuating oil prices, with recent trends showing both increases and decreases across various products, although the overall trend has been upward.

For domestic consumers, the retail prices of common fuel products in Vietnam as of September 13 are as follows:

  • E5 RON92 gasoline: no more than 23,744 VND/liter, which is 495 VND/liter lower than E10 RON95-III.
  • E10 RON95-III gasoline: no more than 24,239 VND/liter.
  • Diesel 0.05S: no more than 28,485 VND/liter.
  • 180CST 3.5S mazut: no more than 18,157 VND/kg.

When compared to neighboring countries on September 10, 2026, fuel prices in Vietnam remain relatively low:

  • Gasoline prices: Thailand: 30,003 VND/liter (government subsidized); Cambodia: 28,337 VND/liter (government subsidized); Laos: 48,216 VND/liter; China: 32,879 VND/liter (government controlled); Vietnam: 24,239 VND/liter.
  • Diesel prices: Thailand: 30,669 VND/liter (government subsidized); Cambodia: 33,218 VND/liter; Laos: 40,176 VND/liter; China: 29,824 VND/liter (government controlled); Vietnam: 28,485 VND/liter.

Overall, Vietnam's fuel prices are currently lower than those of its neighboring countries, providing some relief to consumers amidst the global fluctuations in oil prices.
