Hanoi's Secretary Emphasizes Balanced Development Along Red River

On September 22, Hanoi's Secretary Trần Đức Thắng addressed constituents from 13 districts, discussing the city's careful adjustment of the Red River urban planning scheme. He emphasized that land reclamation will only occur after resettlement infrastructure is fully established, ensuring the well-being of residents.

During the meeting, a local citizen expressed support for the urban development plan but raised concerns about its impact on nearby communities. In response, Thắng assured that the planning process would adhere to the principles outlined in the Politburo's Resolution 02 and the approved master plan for the capital, which envisions a 100-year development horizon.

Thắng stated, "We must proceed with caution, ensuring all related issues are considered, particularly the lives of residents and flood prevention measures. Our goal is to achieve a balance between development and preservation, while also upgrading long-standing villages and historical sites in the area."

The city is currently gathering public feedback on the urban planning proposal until September 27. The plan, which has been in development since 2023, spans 40 kilometers along the river, from Hồng Hà Bridge to Mễ Sở Bridge, and will transform the urban landscape to face the river, promoting modern and civilized urban aesthetics.

Hanoi's Vice Chairman Dương Đức Tuấn noted that the revised urban plan is part of a broader strategy to enhance the capital's infrastructure, with a focus on sustainable development. This includes the construction of new roads, bridges, and public transport systems, which are expected to be completed by 2027.

Thắng highlighted that significant projects, such as the Belt Road 1 and the urban railway line from Nhổn to Hanoi Station, are progressing rapidly and are crucial for alleviating traffic congestion and improving environmental conditions in the city.

He also mentioned ongoing efforts to address urban flooding and waste management, aiming to eliminate landfill disposal by 2027 and improve wastewater treatment systems along the city's rivers. The city is committed to investing substantial resources to tackle these pressing issues.

As Hanoi approaches the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party in 2030, Thắng called for community support and collaboration to ensure that every development initiative enhances the quality of life for residents.
