Nguyen Duc Anh Indicted for Murder of Three in Dong Nai

Nguyen Duc Anh, a 21-year-old man from Ho Nai Ward, has been formally indicted for the murder of three family members in Dong Nai, with the prosecution seeking the death penalty. On September 20, the Dong Nai People's Procuracy completed the indictment, which includes two charges: murder and illegal use of military weapons.

This particularly serious case unfolded when Nguyen Duc Anh attacked the family of Nguyen Van Quang in Binh Minh commune, resulting in the deaths of Quang's wife and two young children, while Quang himself suffered severe injuries. The investigation and prosecution were concluded in a remarkably short time, just over a month after the incident.

According to the indictment, Duc Anh had a romantic relationship with a 17-year-old girl from Binh Minh commune since February. However, when she initiated a breakup in July, he developed a plan for revenge. On the evening of September 2, after consuming alcohol with friends, Duc Anh expressed his distress over the breakup and hinted at a desire to kill the girl, although his friends intervened.

Later that night, around 10:30 PM, Duc Anh asked a friend to take him to Bui Chu hamlet, claiming he wanted to collect a debt of 5 million dong. There, he encountered the girl's father, but was dissuaded from attacking him by his friend. At around midnight on September 3, Duc Anh returned alone, armed with two knives, and attempted to break into his ex-girlfriend's house.

After being discovered by the girl's father, Duc Anh fled but then attempted to enter a neighboring house belonging to Nguyen Viet Quang. He was confronted by Quang's wife, Ho Thi Mai, who was killed as she tried to call for help. Quang himself was attacked when he rushed to assist his wife, sustaining 31 stab wounds but ultimately survived.

After committing the murders, Duc Anh attempted to clean himself in the bathroom but was apprehended by police as he tried to escape. The investigation revealed that just five days prior to the murders, Duc Anh had threatened his ex-girlfriend with a knife, which he had initially planned to use in the attack.

The charges against Duc Anh include multiple aggravating factors, such as the murder of two or more individuals, the involvement of victims under 16 years old, and the brutal nature of the crime. Under Article 123 of the Penal Code, he faces a potential sentence of 12 to 20 years in prison, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.
