Tropical Depression Forecast: Heavy Rain Expected in Vietnam

As of September 13, 2026, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has reported that a tropical depression is expected to make landfall in Vietnam within the next 24 hours. The system is currently located off the coast between Quang Tri and Da Nang, approximately 120 kilometers northeast of Da Nang and 140 kilometers east-northeast of Hue.

The tropical depression is moving west-northwest at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour and is expected to reach land from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri by the evening of September 13. By 4 AM on September 14, the center of the depression will likely be positioned along the coastal areas of Ha Tinh and northern Quang Tri, with wind speeds reaching up to 49 kilometers per hour, gusting to 80 kilometers per hour.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated across various regions, particularly from Ha Tinh to Hue, where rainfall amounts could range from 100 to 200 millimeters, with localized areas receiving over 350 millimeters. The northern mountainous regions and the southern provinces of Son La, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, and Lao Cai will also experience significant rainfall.

In addition to heavy rain, strong winds are expected along the coastal areas from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri, with wind speeds increasing to level 6 and gusts reaching level 8. These conditions could lead to damage to temporary structures, uprooting trees, and affecting power and communication systems.

On the sea, the waters from southern Nghe An to Da Nang will experience strong winds and high waves, posing risks to fishing vessels and maritime activities. The public is urged to remain vigilant and follow updates from local authorities regarding the evolving weather conditions.

The tropical depression is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area within 36 hours after landfall, but the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms will persist, particularly in the northern and central regions of Vietnam.
