New Regulations on VNeID Implementation Effective July 1
Starting July 1, citizens in Vietnam will no longer be required to present their identity cards or documents

The Ministry of Public Security in Vietnam has recently established new procedures for issuing identity cards to citizens aged 14 and older, as outlined in Decision No. 5230/QĐ-BCA-C06 signed on August 18, 2026. This decision introduces new administrative procedures, modifications, and cancellations related to identity card management.
Citizens can apply for an identity card by submitting their applications either in person at the Ministry's Identity Management Agency or online through the National Public Service Portal or the VNeID application. The online process allows citizens to check their information in the National Population Database before scheduling an appointment for further processing.
This streamlined process aims to enhance efficiency and accessibility for citizens seeking to obtain or renew their identity cards, ensuring that all information is accurately recorded and maintained in the National Population Database.
