Scammers are increasingly targeting MyChart, a patient portal used by many to communicate with healthcare providers. These fraudsters are sending fake emails, text messages, and phone calls designed to look legitimate, aiming to steal users' login credentials, personal details, and payment information.

MyChart has reported a rise in these scams, which are not linked to any security issues on its platform. Patients are encouraged to be vigilant and verify any suspicious messages before taking action.

Types of Scams

• Fake Medical Results Scam: This scam typically starts with an email claiming that a patient’s medical results are available. The email includes a link that appears to direct the recipient to MyChart but actually leads to a counterfeit sign-in page. Once on this fake site, users may see alarming messages about their test results and be prompted to enter sensitive information or download malicious software.
• Fake Medicare Kit Scam: Another common scam involves an email stating that the recipient has been selected to receive a free Medicare health kit. This message often includes a link to a website with a survey. After completing the survey, the recipient is informed they have won a prize but must pay a shipping fee, allowing scammers to collect personal and credit card information.

How to Protect Yourself

MyChart advises users to carefully check the sender’s email address and the website URL before clicking on any links. Patients should access MyChart through the official app or a bookmarked website rather than links in unexpected messages. If you suspect you've been targeted, close the suspicious page, report the message as junk or phishing, and take necessary steps to secure your information.

In case you entered your MyChart password or credit card details on a fraudulent site, reset your password immediately and contact your bank to report any unauthorized charges. If you followed any suspicious instructions or downloaded software, disconnect your computer from the internet and have it checked for malware.
