As of August 18, 2026, a tropical depression is significantly impacting the eastern area of the North East Sea. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1 PM local time, the depression was located at approximately 19.5 degrees North latitude and 116.3 degrees East longitude, with maximum winds near the center reaching level 6 (39-49 km/h) and gusts up to level 8.

The tropical depression is moving westward at a speed of about 20 km/h. Forecasts indicate that by 1 PM on August 19, it will shift to a west-northwest direction at a speed of 5-10 km/h, positioning itself around 19.7 degrees North latitude and 114.8 degrees East longitude, approximately 350 km northeast of Hainan Island, China.

The intensity of the tropical depression is expected to remain at level 6, with gusts reaching level 8. A level 3 disaster risk warning has been issued for the northern waters of the North East Sea.

By 1 PM on August 20, the tropical depression will continue moving west-northwest at about 10 km/h, expected to be located at around 20.2 degrees North latitude and 112.5 degrees East longitude, roughly 140 km northeast of Hainan Island. The intensity will remain at level 6, with gusts still at level 8, and the level 3 disaster risk warning continues.

In the following 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression is projected to maintain its west-northwest trajectory, traveling approximately 10 km each hour. In the northern waters of the North East Sea, strong winds of level 6 and waves reaching heights of 2.0-3.5 meters are expected, making the sea rough.

Fishermen and vessels operating in dangerous areas are advised to be cautious of thunderstorms, strong winds, and high waves. Residents and tourists along the coast should actively monitor the situation and prepare appropriate safety measures to ensure their well-being.
