Following the ousting of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has since sought refuge in India, tensions have escalated. The foreign ministers of both nations have been engaged in discussions to find a resolution. Bangladesh's Sports Minister Aminul Haque confirmed that talks are ongoing at the ministerial level, with hopes of resolving the situation quickly.

"We want to quickly resolve the deadlock that was created around the Cricket World Cup," Haque stated, expressing optimism that an agreement could be reached soon. The situation has been complicated by Bangladesh's refusal to send a team to India for the T20 World Cup earlier this year, citing security concerns. This led the International Cricket Council to deny Bangladesh's request to play their matches in Sri Lanka, resulting in Scotland stepping in as a replacement.

Historically, India last toured Bangladesh for a cricket series in 2022, where they won a Test series 2-0, while Bangladesh claimed victory in the ODIs with a score of 2-1. In a subsequent tour in September and October 2024, Bangladesh visited India, where India dominated both formats.
