The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has made headlines with a staggering increase in pre-orders worldwide, exceeding the previous generation's numbers by more than 30%. According to Counterpoint Research, this surge in demand highlights the growing popularity of Samsung's foldable smartphone lineup.

The Galaxy Z8 Series, which includes three models, caters to various market segments. The Fold 8 Ultra is positioned as a premium option with advanced camera specifications, while the standard Z Fold 8 focuses on everyday usability with a more compact design ideal for reading, watching videos, and browsing the web. The Z Flip 8 continues to target a younger audience with its compact form factor.

In South Korea, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8 collectively garnered 1.44 million pre-orders within just seven days of their launch, marking the highest pre-order figures ever recorded for a Galaxy smartphone. This represents a nearly 39% increase compared to the 1.04 million pre-orders for the previous Fold 7 and Flip 7 models. Notably, the standard Fold 8 accounted for approximately 70% of total pre-orders.

Demographic data from Samsung indicates that buyers aged between teenagers and 30 years old made up half of the total pre-orders, with the number of female buyers in this age group more than doubling compared to the previous generation, contributing to this record-breaking performance.

In the United States, pre-orders for the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra have also risen by over 30% compared to their predecessors. The standard Fold 8 alone has captured nearly half of all pre-orders across various carriers and retailers. In Europe, pre-orders have increased by more than 20%, with the Fold 8 representing nearly 40% of total orders.

In Southeast Asia, the Z Fold 8 has emerged as a top seller in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Major retail chains in Vietnam, such as CellphoneS and Điện máy Xanh, have reported a significant increase in pre-orders, with CellphoneS noting nearly double the orders compared to the previous generation.

Counterpoint Research forecasts that shipments of the Galaxy Z8 Series will see double-digit growth in its first year compared to the Galaxy Z7 Series and over 70% compared to the Galaxy Z6 Series. However, competition is expected to intensify in September 2026 when Apple launches its first foldable phone.
