Vietnam Prioritizes Advanced Technology Investments, Says Leader

During a state visit to Australia, General Secretary and President To Lam outlined Vietnam's strategic priorities for attracting foreign investments. He emphasized the importance of projects that incorporate advanced technology, modern governance, and the capacity for technology transfer, aiming to strengthen domestic business connections.

Meeting with Nicholas Moore, the Australian Government's Special Envoy for Southeast Asia, To Lam acknowledged the significance of his visit as a milestone in the diplomatic relations established over 50 years ago between Vietnam and Australia. Moore expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation, particularly through the implementation of Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.

Moore discussed opportunities for expanding trade and investment, emphasizing the need for higher commercial values between the two nations. Recent agreements in the aviation sector and others were noted as steps to further boost trade connectivity.

Both leaders recognized the potential for Vietnam and Australia to be key destinations for technology startups. With a dynamic market and a large community of Vietnamese students in Australia, there are significant opportunities to foster innovation and contribute to growth in both countries.

To Lam reiterated Vietnam's ambition to be a high-income country by 2045, focusing on science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transition, and private sector development as primary growth drivers. He called for Australia to remain a crucial partner in this journey.

With a stable investment environment, a young workforce, strategic positioning in supply chains, and an expanding market, Vietnam is well-positioned to be a preferred destination for Australian businesses and investors. To Lam stressed the need for long-term cooperation in innovation, science and technology, human resource development, green finance, high-quality infrastructure, strategic supply chains, education, and research.

Both nations are encouraged to transform their cooperation into concrete economic programs and projects, reinforcing their comprehensive strategic partnership and enhancing the well-being of their citizens.
