Government Audit Reveals Violations in Major Gold Companies
The Government Inspectorate has uncovered multiple violations at major gold trading companies, including Bảo

In a recent announcement, several gold trading companies in Vietnam, including Mi Hồng, Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải, and PNJ, have responded to the findings of a government inspection regarding their compliance with gold trading regulations. The inspection, conducted by the Government Inspectorate, revealed several issues related to the companies' adherence to policies and laws governing the gold trading sector.
On August 8, the Government Inspectorate released its findings, which included concerns about the business practices of Mi Hồng, Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải, and PNJ. Mi Hồng stated that the issues raised pertained to activities that had already been inspected by authorities prior to 2025. The company acknowledged shortcomings in reporting, product information disclosure, anti-money laundering measures, and tax obligations. They assured that they have reviewed and rectified these issues in accordance with regulatory requirements and are committed to improving their governance processes.
Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải reported that during the inspection, it was found that there were seven transactions involving deposits for gold purchases that were not fulfilled immediately, totaling over 6.46 billion VND. The company explained that the delays were due to damaged packaging of the gold bars, which needed to be repackaged by SJC before delivery. They have since taken corrective actions to prevent similar issues from arising in the future.
Regarding tax compliance, Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải has paid over 8.42 billion VND in taxes as per the tax authority's guidance. They admitted to some deficiencies in their e-commerce practices and anti-money laundering compliance, stating they have undertaken measures to enhance their procedures and staff training. Additionally, the company paid a fine of 910 million VND in September 2024 for violations related to anti-money laundering regulations.
Meanwhile, PNJ disclosed that in September 2025, it proactively reviewed its tax obligations and identified an additional VAT payment of nearly 10 billion VND for the period from January 2023 to September 2025. They have since filed and paid this additional tax along with late payment penalties exceeding 973 million VND.
The Government Inspectorate has recommended increased scrutiny and enforcement against practices such as market manipulation, hoarding, price inflation, smuggling, speculation, and illegal trading that may destabilize the gold market. This includes companies like Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải and Mi Hồng.
