Today's Gold Prices: Notable Differences in Listings

On August 9, 2026, the gold market in Vietnam displayed notable differences in pricing among various dealers. Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải reported a decrease of 800,000 VND per tael for gold rings, although their prices remained higher than those for SJC gold. Meanwhile, Mi Hồng continued to sell SJC gold at rates approximately 1 million VND lower than many larger enterprises.

As of 9 AM, the Saigon Jewelry Company listed SJC gold prices at 141-144 million VND per tael (buy-sell), unchanged from the previous morning. The spread between buying and selling prices was maintained at 3 million VND per tael. Other major gold trading companies, such as DOJI and Phú Quý, also kept their SJC gold selling prices at 144 million VND per tael.

In contrast, Mi Hồng's pricing for SJC gold was set at 141.5-143 million VND per tael, making it about 1 million VND lower than the average prices of other companies. Additionally, the buying-selling spread at Mi Hồng was significantly narrowed to just 1.5 million VND per tael, about 1.5 million VND less than many competitors.

In the gold ring segment, there were also considerable price discrepancies among brands. Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải listed gold rings at 141.2-145.2 million VND per tael, reflecting a decrease of 800,000 VND in both buying and selling prices compared to the previous morning. Despite this reduction, Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải's gold rings were still priced higher than their SJC gold.

On the other hand, Phú Quý's gold rings were priced at 141-145 million VND per tael, while SJC gold rings were listed at 140.5-143.4 million VND per tael. The recent findings from the Government Inspectorate, released on August 8, indicated that Bảo Tín Mạnh Hải and Mi Hồng, along with several other major gold trading companies, were involved in violations related to gold trading, taxation, anti-money laundering, and e-commerce.

The Inspectorate has referred the case to the Ministry of Public Security for further investigation. The report also highlighted that the domestic gold prices are often higher than international rates due to limited supply and increased demand, along with management issues.

In currency news, the central exchange rate announced on August 9 was set at 25,463 VND/USD, unchanged from the previous session. At Vietcombank, the USD was quoted at 26,150-26,430 VND/USD (buy-sell), reflecting a decrease from earlier rates. In the free market, the USD was traded around 26,070-26,100 VND/USD, significantly lower than the bank selling rates.
