On August 9, 2026, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam exhibited a cautious trading atmosphere. The price of fresh rice saw a slight increase for certain key varieties, driven by farmers' willingness to maintain prices. Meanwhile, the prices of raw rice and export rice remained stable, indicating a steady market condition.

Domestic Rice Prices on August 9: Fresh Rice Holds Steady

The market for fresh rice in provinces such as An Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Vinh Long, Ca Mau, and Tay Ninh reported a subdued buying atmosphere. However, two rice varieties, OM 5451 and OM 18, recorded slight price increases as traders sought to replenish stocks, trading at approximately 6,500 - 6,650 VND/kg and 6,900 - 7,050 VND/kg, respectively. The fragrant rice variety, Dai Thom 8, maintained a price range of 6,900 - 7,100 VND/kg due to stable demand. Common rice varieties like IR 50404 traded around 6,100 - 6,200 VND/kg, while OM 34 remained unchanged at 6,100 - 6,300 VND/kg.

In the segment of raw rice used for export processing, the market remained differentiated but stable at high price levels. Raw rice IR 504 held steady at 9,750 - 9,850 VND/kg following a previous price increase. Similarly, raw rice CL 555 remained stable at 9,750 - 9,850 VND/kg.

Other raw rice varieties showed no new fluctuations: OM 5451 at 9,300 - 9,400 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 at 9,200 - 9,400 VND/kg; OM 18 at 8,700 - 8,850 VND/kg; and OM 380 and Soc Thom both maintained prices around 7,500 - 7,600 VND/kg. In the by-product category, fragrant rice bran continued at 8,600 - 8,700 VND/kg, and rice bran stabilized between 7,700 - 7,850 VND/kg.

In southern local markets, retail rice prices did not face adjustment pressures. Ngan Nhen rice continued to be listed at the highest price of around 28,000 VND/kg, while popular varieties such as Huong Lai, Jasmine, Dai Thom, OM 18, and Japanese rice maintained stable price levels.

Export Rice Prices on August 9: Vietnamese Rice Faces Competitive Pressure

In the export market, the selling prices of Vietnamese rice on August 9 remained unchanged. According to data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), fragrant rice with 100% broken grains held steady at 367 - 371 USD/ton. Fragrant rice with 5% broken grains was priced at 500 - 510 USD/ton, continuing to represent the high-value segment in the export structure. Meanwhile, Jasmine rice traded at 541 - 545 USD/ton.

The international market is witnessing intense price competition from major exporting countries. Currently, Thai 5% broken rice is offered at 450 - 454 USD/ton, while Indian 5% broken rice remains at a lower price range of 361 - 365 USD/ton.

Statistics indicate that in the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam exported approximately 5.53 million tons of rice, a 0.5% increase in volume compared to the same period last year. However, the export turnover only reached around 2.62 billion USD, a decrease of 7.1% due to a drop in average export prices.
