Japanese businesses keen on Mekong Delta

HCMC – Many Japanese businesses are seeking to launch operations in the Mekong Delta, with Vinh Long Province as a destination of priority, according to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

The preference for Vinh Long is in response to growing construction costs and a scarcity of workers and land in HCMC and neighboring provinces, according to Ida Koji, deputy chief representative of the JETRO office in HCMC.

He recommended local authorities support business operations and remove obstacles in the investment process, particularly in administrative paperwork.

Vinh Long Province currently is home to 73 foreign direct investment projects from 15 countries and territories.

Japan ranks first among foreign investors in the province with some 11 projects worth US$213.8 million, mostly in the food processing, agricultural production, logistics and electronic components sectors.
