On the morning of August 8, a wooden boat transporting groceries suddenly caught fire on the Saigon River, specifically opposite the Truong Tho Port. This tragic event resulted in the death of one individual and left another injured.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Inland Waterway Port Authority, the incident occurred around 6 AM when the boat, whose registration details remain unknown, was traveling from Binh Quoi towards the Saigon Bridge. As it reached the area opposite Truong Tho Port, the vessel unexpectedly ignited.

Upon receiving the emergency report, the Ho Chi Minh City Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department dispatched specialized equipment to the scene. Two fireboats were deployed to extinguish the flames, and by approximately 8:10 AM, the fire was completely under control.

Initial investigations revealed that the boat was solely used for transporting groceries and had two people on board at the time of the fire. Unfortunately, Ms. Vo Thi Roi, born in 1973, lost her life in the incident. The other individual managed to swim to shore and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment; their identity has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities reported that the fire did not cause any oil spills and did not impact the waterway traffic. Investigations into the cause of the fire and related circumstances are ongoing.
