During a recent event marking National Cybersecurity Day, Vietnam's Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng called on citizens to equip themselves with digital skills and to behave civilly in the online environment. He emphasized that when 100 million people unite in their efforts, they can form a formidable wall to protect themselves, their families, and the country.

Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, who also heads the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee, stated that ensuring cybersecurity must be a coordinated effort between protecting systems and safeguarding individuals. He asserted that the ultimate measure for all policies should be the safety, peace, and happiness of the people. This principle aligns with the theme of this year's cybersecurity message: "For a humane online space for everyone."

In his address, the Prime Minister urged the National Cybersecurity Steering Committee to enhance the legal framework, address cybersecurity bottlenecks, and ensure personal data protection. He stressed the need for robust regulations to effectively handle legal violations in the online space, aiming for a safe, healthy, and trustworthy digital environment.

Furthermore, he called on technology, telecommunications, and financial companies to recognize their social responsibilities. Banks, in particular, should transition to a security architecture centered around people, incorporating automatic fraud alerts for users at no cost.

Specialized cybersecurity forces were reminded to maintain their role as a strong shield, safeguarding the nation's digital sovereignty. The Prime Minister encouraged citizens to enhance their awareness and ability to protect themselves online, suggesting that each individual can become an active "digital shield." He reiterated that collective action among the populace is essential for national security.

Looking ahead, the government has designated August 6 each year as Vietnam's National Cybersecurity Day starting in 2024.
