Suspect Arrested for Snatching and Dragging Victim in Ho Chi Minh City

On August 1, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Police announced the arrest of Nguyen Huy Hoang, a 54-year-old man, for the crime of handbag snatching, during which he dragged the victim along the road.

The incident occurred when the victim, identified as H.H.N (born in 1982), was walking with his wife on Dao Duy Anh Street in Duc Nhuan Ward. A man on a motorcycle approached them, snatched the handbag, and sped away. In a swift reaction, Mr. N. pursued the suspect and managed to grab hold of him.

During his attempt to escape, the suspect dragged Mr. N. along the street. The chase ended when the suspect crashed his motorcycle near house number 12/5 on Dao Duy Anh Street. Local security forces, who were on duty, along with residents, quickly intervened to apprehend the suspect and retrieve the stolen property.

Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed his identity as Nguyen Huy Hoang (born in 1972) and admitted to the crime. The police reported that Hoang has a lengthy criminal record, having been previously convicted for similar theft offenses and other legal violations. After serving his sentence, he reoffended shortly thereafter.

Based on the evidence collected, the Ho Chi Minh City Police initiated legal proceedings against Hoang for the crime of “snatching property,” categorizing him as a dangerous repeat offender.
