Recent excavations in Dong Nai have uncovered a mass grave containing the remains of 26 soldiers, along with several portraits of military personnel and young women. The discovery was made by the K72 team during their efforts to locate and recover remains in Minh Duc commune, particularly at a site known as Height 74.

On July 30, the Dong Nai Military Command reported that while cleaning the area and gathering remains, the team found numerous clear photographs that could assist in identifying the fallen soldiers and reconnecting them with their families. Among the images were portraits of male soldiers in uniform, young women, and group photographs of military personnel.

Lieutenant Colonel Vu Van Tho, the head of the K72 team, stated that 26 sets of remains were excavated from the expanded search area in Minh Duc. More than half of these remains are suitable for DNA sampling, which may help in the identification process. The photographs and other personal items found, including a pen engraved with the name 'Tien Quy' and images of doves, are being preserved and analyzed by relevant units.

The area where the remains were discovered is located on the northwest slope of Height 74, which was the site of numerous battles between the liberation forces and the American and South Vietnamese troops from 1967 to 1975, resulting in many casualties among soldiers. In November 1969, this location was part of a military operation called 'Search and Block Minh Duc' conducted by American forces, while the liberation army executed ambushes against enemy convoys and armored vehicles.

The recovery of these remains and personal artifacts not only serves as a solemn reminder of the past but also holds the potential for healing and closure for the families of those who served and sacrificed during the war.
