The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared that it successfully struck three oil tankers in the Hormuz Strait, which it described as operating on an 'illegal route.' The announcement came alongside confirmation that Iran had launched missiles at a U.S. military base in the region.

According to the IRGC, the three oil tankers ignored warnings and continued to navigate through what Iran considers unsafe waters. 'These vessels, which violated our warnings, have been hit and stopped,' the IRGC stated. However, no details regarding the vessels or the extent of the damage were provided.

The IRGC also reported that it had fired several ballistic missiles at a U.S. airbase and a CENTCOM headquarters in Jordan, labeling these actions as retaliation against U.S. aggression. They did not specify the nature of the U.S. actions that prompted this response.

'Resistance efforts will continue as long as the threat to Iran persists and hostile actions against our interests do not cease. The threats from U.S. officials and illegal interventions must stop,' the IRGC emphasized.

Earlier, CENTCOM indicated that Iran had unexpectedly launched a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting U.S. forces in the Middle East, claiming that all of these weapons were intercepted. Although the specific targets of the missile strikes were not disclosed, a U.S. official mentioned that Iran aimed at a military base in Jordan.

The situation in the region had been relatively calm following a memorandum signed between the U.S. and Iran in mid-June. However, tensions have escalated recently as the U.S. collaborated with Oman and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to establish a new shipping route south of the Hormuz Strait, entirely within Oman's territorial waters. This initiative encourages commercial vessels to opt for this route instead of the northern passage through Iranian waters.

The IRGC accused the U.S. of 'imposing its will' on the Omani government, attempting to direct more vessels through what it calls an 'illegal maritime route' in the southern area. The oil tankers navigating through this strait have faced attacks, leading to a series of retaliatory strikes between Iran and the U.S.

Last weekend, the U.S. halted its airstrike campaign after 13 consecutive nights of attacks on Iranian targets. The Iranian military also announced a cessation of its proportional retaliatory strikes against U.S. positions in the Middle East.

The strategic significance of the Hormuz Strait remains a focal point in the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides engaging in a complex game of military posturing.
