Mai Ngo Sparks Controversy at Miss Supranational 2026

Mai Ngo, representing Vietnam at the Miss Supranational 2026 competition in Poland, has caused quite a stir by frequently livestreaming her experiences during the event. On July 26, while participating in the Top Model segment, she was seen livestreaming backstage alongside a contestant from South Korea. During this session, Mai Ngo enthusiastically provided guidance on catwalk techniques and posing.

However, their livestream was abruptly interrupted by a contestant manager who harshly instructed them to stop broadcasting. This unexpected reaction caught Mai Ngo off guard, prompting her to bid farewell to her viewers before ending the livestream. The incident has sparked a divided response from netizens, with many defending Mai Ngo, arguing that the manager's reaction was excessive. Supporters claim that her intention was to connect with fans and share her journey, rather than disrupt the competition.

Livestreaming has become a common practice among Vietnamese representatives participating in international beauty pageants, allowing them to update their followers on their experiences through platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. Mai Ngo has actively engaged her audience during her time in Poland, sharing behind-the-scenes moments, introducing her roommates, and discussing her schedule and experiences at Miss Supranational.

While many fans appreciate this approach as a way to create a closer connection, others argue that Mai Ngo should adhere to the competition's regulations. International beauty pageants often have strict schedules and internal rules that contestants must follow, including restrictions on filming or broadcasting certain activities to maintain confidentiality. Additionally, livestreaming can infringe on the privacy of other contestants, as not everyone may want to be featured in a live broadcast.

In a previous livestream with a contestant from Thailand, an unsuspecting tourist appeared in the frame and requested that Mai Ngo stop the broadcast upon realizing they were on camera. This highlights the sensitivity surrounding livestreaming and image sharing in a multicultural environment.

Past beauty pageants have also faced controversies regarding contestants posting images or videos too early, potentially revealing results or disrupting the event's media plans. Mai Ngo's situation serves as a lesson for Vietnamese representatives competing internationally, emphasizing the importance of leveraging digital platforms while respecting organizational rules.

Despite the controversy, Mai Ngo's performance in the Top Model segment was generally well-received, although she did not make it to the top two contestants in the Asian region, which were Thailand and Macau (China). As the competition progresses towards its conclusion on July 31, the reigning Miss Supranational is Eduarda Braum from Brazil. The question remains: what achievements will Mai Ngo secure in this prestigious beauty pageant?
