Lương Văn Chánh High School in Đắk Lắk has recently made headlines for its remarkably low admission scores for the 10th grade. The school announced its admission criteria at the end of June, but it has sparked discussions as some classes have set very low benchmarks. For instance, the entrance score for the specialized History class was only 15 out of 40, which translates to an average of just three points per subject, including mandatory subjects like Mathematics, Literature, and English, along with the specialized subject weighted at two times.

Similarly, the Geography class required an average of 3.75 points per subject with a total score of 18.75, while the Information Technology class had a threshold of 19.65 points, averaging about 3.95 points per subject. These scores are among the lowest recorded for specialized schools across the country this year.

Mr. Huỳnh Tấn Châu, the principal of Lương Văn Chánh High School, explained that this year marked the first time the school admitted students into specialized classes for History and Geography, resulting in fewer applicants and consequently lower admission scores. The school is set to enroll 350 students, with the Mathematics class taking in 70 students, while other classes such as Literature, History, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English, and Information Technology will each accept 35 students.

Aside from the History, Geography, and Information Technology classes, the admission scores for other classes ranged from 26 to 33.7 out of 50, with many students achieving higher scores. Mr. Phạm Huy Văn, Deputy Director of the Đắk Lắk Department of Education and Training, stated that the province's examination regulations do not set a minimum score for specialized subjects; instead, admissions are based on total scores ranked from highest to lowest until the quota is filled. He noted that it is not unusual for students to be admitted to specialized schools with relatively low scores in their specialized subjects. However, the department plans to review and evaluate the situation early next week.

This year, Đắk Lắk also organized entrance exams for Nguyễn Du High School, Lương Văn Chánh High School, and three boarding schools (N'Trang Lơng, Đam San, Phú Yên). The low admission scores have also been observed at the French language class of Nguyễn Du High School, which had a threshold of 19.9 out of 40 (approximately 3.98 points per subject). Meanwhile, some students with nearly perfect academic records (49 out of 50) were still unable to gain admission, prompting the Department of Education and Training to increase the admission quotas for certain high schools.
