On July 21, Pacific Airlines confirmed that the final aircraft branded as Jetstar Pacific has officially retired from service. This aircraft, which had been a significant part of the airline's history, will continue its journey with a new partner, although specific details regarding its registration number and future operations have not been disclosed.
The retirement of this aircraft symbolizes the conclusion of the Jetstar Pacific brand, which was well-known for its silver Airbus planes adorned with the orange star logo. Jetstar Pacific was established as a low-cost airline in Vietnam in 2008, following a partnership with Qantas and the Jetstar network. It quickly became a popular choice among budget-conscious travelers.
Despite the retirement of the Jetstar Pacific brand, Pacific Airlines continues to operate under its original name. The airline was founded in 1991 and was one of the first joint-stock airlines in Vietnam. In 2020, a restructuring agreement between Vietnam Airlines and Qantas led to the discontinuation of the Jetstar Pacific brand, transitioning back to the name Pacific Airlines. This change aimed to enhance business efficiency and profitability while improving collaboration within the Vietnam Airlines Group.
The final aircraft associated with Jetstar Pacific's legacy has now been handed over to a partner, marking a significant moment in the airline's history. While the Jetstar Pacific brand may no longer exist, Pacific Airlines continues to operate a fleet of Airbus A321s on domestic routes, connecting major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Nha Trang.
