A car unexpectedly caught fire on a sidewalk in Ho Chi Minh City on July 19, causing a scene as bystanders rushed to help. The incident took place around 6 PM in Phuoc Thang Ward, where a five-seater vehicle with Quang Tri license plates was parked near the intersection of 2 Thang 9 and Do Luong streets.
According to the driver, the car had been exhibiting signs of brake failure, prompting them to pull over for repairs. While the driver and mechanic were examining the vehicle, smoke began to billow from the engine compartment. They were unable to open the hood to address the issue, and within five minutes, flames erupted from the engine area.
Witnesses quickly sprang into action, using sticks and wrenches to pry open the hood while others rushed to a nearby restaurant to fetch buckets of water. After successfully opening the hood, they doused the flames continuously, managing to control the fire within approximately ten minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
This event highlights the importance of vehicle maintenance and the potential hazards that can arise from mechanical failures. Authorities are likely to investigate further to determine the cause of the fire and ensure public safety.
