Nguyen Thuy Hang, the director of the Writers' Association Publishing House, has been arrested along with two other staff members as part of an investigation into the publication of a book titled "Stories with Thanh." The arrests are linked to accusations of distorting historical facts and disseminating false information.
The Hanoi Security Investigation Agency has initiated legal proceedings against Hang, Dao Ba Doan, the chief editor, and Nguyen Van Yen, the head of the editorial board. They are suspected of having roles in the censorship and editing of the controversial book, which has been criticized for its content.
According to the investigation, the accused individuals engaged in the production and distribution of various videos and materials that allegedly distort the history of the Vietnamese revolutionary movements and insult prominent figures such as President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap.
This case has drawn significant attention, especially following the book's release in late April, which sparked public outcry over its contents. On June 4, the Department of Publishing, Printing, and Distribution ordered the Writers' Association Publishing House to cease distribution and recall all copies of "Stories with Thanh" from the market.
In mid-June, the publishing house was fined 100 million VND and faced a two-month operational suspension to address its professional practices. The investigation continues as authorities seek to clarify the full extent of the violations committed by the accused and related parties.
The book, which had an initial print run of 9,700 copies, reportedly contained serious inaccuracies regarding historical figures and events, raising concerns about its appropriateness and factual integrity.
