In a recent phone call, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in discussions regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. According to Yury Ushakov, an assistant to President Putin, the two leaders talked about achieving a peaceful solution and the methods to implement it, among other topics.

When asked what the U.S. could do to expedite the resolution of the conflict, Ushakov suggested that the first step might be to halt all forms of aid to Kiev. This topic was notably addressed during their conversation about conflict resolution options.

This phone call marks the 15th discussion between Putin and Trump since Trump took office in early 2025. Notably, since the beginning of this year, the two leaders have had five calls. Ushakov acknowledged that U.S. support for Ukraine has significantly decreased since Trump returned to the White House, contrasting with the previous administration's extensive military aid to Ukraine.

Ushakov also mentioned that Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, could once again serve as a venue for potential trilateral negotiations aimed at peace in Ukraine, should discussions resume. He noted that there have been some contacts with Ukraine, and the current focus is on reviving the negotiation process that had previously taken place.

Furthermore, Ushakov indicated that the presidents discussed the possibility of resuming talks with Ukraine, including a three-party mechanism involving American negotiators. He expressed uncertainty about the existence of a clear roadmap for a peaceful solution, stating that it seems no one has yet seen one.

Moscow has repeatedly stated its readiness to resolve the Ukraine conflict, provided that the underlying causes are addressed and the ground realities are taken into account. Russia's demands include Ukraine abandoning its NATO membership plans and accepting a neutral status, along with restrictions on its armed forces. Additionally, Moscow insists that Kiev recognize Russia's sovereignty over the territories it has annexed.

In response, Kiev has firmly rejected Moscow's territorial and security demands, reaffirming its goal to regain control over all territories it claims and to join NATO.
