Vietnam Requests Universities to Report on Nguyễn Thành Nam's Teaching Engagements
Vietnam's Ministry of Education has requested universities to report on the invitation of Nguyễn Thành Nam

Nguyen Thanh Nam, a notable figure in Vietnam's technology sector and a co-founder of FPT Corporation, has been temporarily detained by the Hanoi Police's Security Investigation Agency. This action comes in light of allegations that he disseminated anti-state information through his recently published book, 'Conversations with Thanh'.
Nam, who previously served as the CEO of FPT Corporation, released the book in April 2023. However, it quickly sparked controversy due to its historical inaccuracies and perceived disrespect towards significant figures in Vietnamese history, including President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap.
In addition to Nam, Trần Việt Anh has also been charged in connection with the book, which authorities claim distorts historical facts related to Vietnam's revolutionary movements and the policies of the Communist Party. The content of the book has been criticized for its inaccuracies and inappropriate language, leading to its retraction from the market.
Following the book's release, the Publishing Department ordered the publisher, the Writers' Association Publishing House, to halt distribution and conduct a thorough review of the book's content. The publisher acknowledged its shortcomings in the editing and review process, subsequently issuing an apology to readers.
On June 15, the Publishing Department imposed a fine of 100 million VND on the publisher for violations, suspended its operations for two months, and mandated the recall and destruction of all 9,700 copies of the book printed. The publisher was also required to return over 423 million VND in illegal profits gained from the book's distribution.
