Teacher Arrested in Tuyen Quang Over Unusual Exam Scores
Nguyen Ha Duy, a teacher at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School, has been arrested for alleged misconduct

In a significant development in the Tuyen Quang exam scandal, local authorities have announced that 15 more individuals have been charged, increasing the total number of accused to 19. The Tuyen Quang Provincial Police stated that all 19 individuals are being prosecuted under Article 356 of the Penal Code for abusing their positions and powers while performing official duties.
The initial charges were brought against four individuals, including Nguyen Ha Duy, a Mathematics teacher at Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted, and Tran Thi Thu Hang, the vice principal of Nguyen Van Huyen High School, who served as the chief supervisor at the exam site. It is alleged that Hang directed and guided several exam proctors to facilitate cheating for students during the Mathematics exam.
According to the police, Duy entered the exam room and directly assisted some students with their Mathematics answers, which has raised serious concerns about the fairness and transparency of the high school graduation exam. The investigation revealed that the actions of the accused were motivated by a desire for better performance results.
On July 5, police executed the arrest warrant for Nguyen Ha Duy. In a press conference, Hoang Minh Canh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, stated that they have met with parents and students from the Tuyen Quang exam site to gather feedback and concerns. Following a review, the Department has submitted a proposal to the provincial government, recommending that students from Tuyen Quang be allowed to retake the Mathematics exam.
This scandal came to light after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the graduation exam scores on July 1, which revealed that over 290 out of 328 students at Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted scored 9 or above in Mathematics, with more than 140 achieving perfect scores. The unusual results prompted further investigation into the integrity of the examination process.
