DBV Insurance Fined for Misleading Advertising Practices

The National Competition Committee has imposed a fine of 200 million VND on DBV Insurance Company for engaging in unfair competition practices. The fine was a result of the company's misleading claims, such as 'Top 1 Motor Insurance' and 'Number 1 Motor Insurance in Vietnam,' which were found to confuse customers about the company's market position.

According to the committee, DBV Insurance violated the 2018 Competition Law by providing misleading information aimed at attracting customers from other businesses. In addition to the monetary penalty, DBV Insurance is required to publicly correct the misleading information on its official website and Facebook page.

In response to the fine, DBV Insurance has stated that it has updated its messaging regarding being 'Number 1 in Motor Insurance.' The company claims this message is based on data from the Vietnam Insurance Association, which recognizes DBV as the market leader in motor insurance revenue starting from 2024. The company aims to provide clarity to customers regarding the basis of this claim and to reaffirm its commitment to transparency and accuracy in its communications.

DBV Insurance, formerly known as the Aviation Insurance Corporation (VNI), is a non-life insurance company that officially changed its name in May 2025 after receiving approval from the Ministry of Finance. The company offers a range of products, including motor insurance, health insurance, property insurance, cargo insurance, maritime insurance, technical insurance, and liability insurance. With 105 branches and representative offices, DBV Insurance reported a gross insurance revenue of 1.475 trillion VND in the first quarter, marking a 96% increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, motor insurance revenue reached 992 billion VND, also showing a 96% growth, while technical and maritime insurance grew by 68%, and personal insurance revenue increased by 132% compared to the previous year.
