Super Typhoon Bavi is currently being monitored as a highly dangerous system capable of producing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and potential landslides along its path. As of the evening of July 8, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) reported that the storm is moving westward at a speed of about 20 km/h.
The maximum wind speed near the center of Super Typhoon Bavi is recorded at 250 km/h, with peak wave heights reaching approximately 15.2 meters. In the next 12 hours, the typhoon is expected to change direction to the northwest. Within the next 60 to 72 hours, the storm is projected to pass through the Yaeyama Islands of Japan before heading towards the eastern coast of China.
JTWC forecasts that Super Typhoon Bavi will make landfall on the eastern coast of China in about 84 hours. The storm is anticipated to weaken gradually over the next 24 hours, transitioning into a severe tropical storm. However, upon making landfall in China, the storm's intensity is expected to diminish rapidly due to the terrain.
Super Typhoon Bavi is likely to reach the southeastern waters of China by Friday before impacting coastal areas of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces over the weekend. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall to many regions in eastern, central, and northern China.
JTWC has issued warnings that this remains a very dangerous weather system, capable of causing strong winds, heavy rains, storm surges, rough seas, landslides, and flash floods in areas along its path. Residents and tourists in the Yaeyama Islands and the eastern coastal regions of China, particularly in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and adhere to guidance from authorities. It is recommended to avoid going out to sea or traveling to coastal areas during the storm's impact to ensure safety.
