Indonesia massively imported Vietnamese agricultural products, increasing by 1520%

Preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs show that Indonesia imports agricultural products from Vietnam, including seafood, vegetables, coffee, tea, rice, rubber, etc.
Last May, although the turnover was still quite modest, most of the Vietnamese agricultural products exported to Indonesia recorded strong growth. Seafood export reached 4.12 million USD; coffee reached 17.5 million USD, both doubled compared to May 2022; vegetables and fruits reached USD 0.83 million, 1.7 times higher; rice exports earned 32.3 million USD, 6 times higher.
In the first five months of 2023, only exports of rubber and tea decreased, while exports of other agricultural products increased at a rate of 2-3 digits.Specifically, seafood exports to this market increased by 70.2% year-on-year, with a revenue of 7.83 million US dollars; Vegetables reached 2.44 million US dollars, an increase of 20.4%; Coffee reached 76.2 million US dollars, an increase of 185.4%.
It is worth noting that as of the end of May 2023, rice exports to this market reached $181.4 million, an increase of 1520% compared to the same period in 2022. That is to say, the country's expenditure on purchasing Vietnamese rice is 16 times that of the same period last year.
Indonesia has become a major customer of Vietnamese rice, accounting for 9.5% of the total export value of Vietnamese rice in the first five months of this year.
According to industry experts, against the backdrop of inflation in many countries, the turnover of Vietnamese agricultural products exported to major markets has sharply decreased. Enterprises are "eager" for orders in the traditional markets and are forced to look for new markets to make up for them. This is also part of the booming export of agricultural products to Asian countries, including Indonesia.
