Vietnamese passports up in global ranking

HCMC – Vietnamese passports have risen four places to 88th on the Henley Passport Index, which ranks the passport power based on the total number of visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations available to holders worldwide.

Vietnamese passport holders can now visit 55 countries and territories without a visa or with a visa on arrival. Vietnamese passports were previously placed 92nd in the 2022 fourth-quarter update.

Passports issued by Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are behind Vietnamese passports in Southeast Asia, ranking 89th, 93rd and 96th, respectively.

Japanese passports top the list, with their holders having visa-free access to 193 destinations globally. South Koreans and Singaporeans share the second place.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Pakistan are among the countries with lowest-ranking passports, according to the index.

The Henley Passport Index is an international ranking of passports based on holders’ travel freedom point.

The report is updated quarterly by Henley & Partners, a London-based residence and citizenship advisory firm, using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association.
